About the client

The client is a residential nursing home situated in the Swansea Valley that offers nursing, physical and specialist dementia care to the residents. They believe that having a spacious and green environment makes a difference and enriches the lives of residents at the home.

Rooms are bright and welcoming, with each room furnished with a profiling bed and WiFi. Residents also have access to spa baths that can play residents’ favourite songs.

Purpose of the role

  • To ensure, always, the highest standards of care are delivered to the individuals whilst working within the defined company policies and procedures
  • To ensure all nursing practices are evidence based and reflect current trends
  • To work with the Home Manager and other trained nurses in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating quality of nursing care
  • To supervise and train care staff and ensure the full and professional delivery of care to the individuals

Location

Responsibilites

  • To have up to date evidence based clinical knowledge in relation to individual groups cared for within the Home 
  • To be able to communicate at appropriate levels with all individuals, relatives, staff, other professionals and outside agencies involved in the care of the individuals. 

  • To keep all records of care given in the individuals’ care plan during each shift using Person Centred Software 

  • To ensure well organised and efficient care is given at all times 

  • To ensure that all aspects of individuals care needs, i.e. physical, emotional, spiritual and social are met 

  • To ensure shift handover form is used for all handovers using person centred software 

  • To delegate responsibilities clearly, courteously and collaboratively, as required, to ensure the highest standards of care are maintained 

  • To ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved 

  • To work with the Palliative care professionals to ensure that the dying receive the utmost care that we can provide 

  • To develop a relationship of trust and friendship with the individuals and their families 

  • To ensure individuals’ care plans and risk assessments are reviewed on an ongoing basis and at least monthly 

  • To prepare and take part in individuals’ reviews

Specific skills and knowledge

Excellent Clinical knowledge and ability to work within busy environment whilst promoting team work, positive attitude and good communication 

Knowledge of medical conditions including individuals’ education 

▪ Understanding of Dementia and ability to support individuals who might come across as ‘challenging’ 

Knowledge and understanding of the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 and Social Service and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 

To be committed to expanding own expertise and professional development

  • To ensure that all individuals’ wounds are appropriately assessed, recorded, treatment plan followed, pictures taken and sufficient stock of required dressings kept at all times. To seek further advise as and when necessary from other heath professionals to ensure the best outcome for the individuals
  • To report any change to the individual’s health, well-being or behaviour to the Home Manager
  • To report any accidents/incidents immediately using Person Centred Software/appropriate books
  • To ensure that the nurse call system is answered as rapidly as possible, giving assistance if required 
  • To ensure infection control guidance are followed at all times ensuring you have adequate protective clothing such as gloves and aprons when required 
  • To audit charts and notes on Person Centred Software when on shift to ensure compliance
  • To support the Home Manager in dealing with complaints promptly 
  • To practice maximum integrity in all dealings with individuals’ personal affairs 
  • To undertake a pre-assessment for new individual prior to coming into the home 

Professional Requirements

NURSING DILPOMA

12 MONTHS NURSING EXPERIENCE

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

IELTS, OET OR UK NARIC

Salary details

PRE-REGISTRATION SALARY

£13.50 per hour

REGISTERED NURSE SALARY

£20.00 per hour
