About the client:

The client aims to deliver an innovative extra care housing scheme designed especially for people with visual impairment and other disabilities, the first of its kind for the city of York and surrounding areas. The client offers tenants purpose-built, self-contained apartments that include some of the latest assistive technology; a friendly environment to encourage independent living, whilst also providing access to 24/7 on-site care, support and housing services.

About the role:

Each day can vary, but here are some of the key everyday responsibilities:

  • Supporting service users on an individual basis to maximise their independence and take an active part in all aspects of their daily lives
  • Engaging with the service user to explore and develop interests in leisure activities including holidays, trips to theatre etc. Facilitate access to activities
  • Providing advice, information and practical support identified in the support plan to enable service users to maintain health and wellbeing
  • Supporting the service users with advice, information and practical support in accessing a healthy balanced diet in accordance with their individual needs
  • Supporting, assisting and administering medication as required following procedures and immediately escalating any errors following procedures
  • Supporting and assisting (where appropriate) service users to maintain, develop and nurture positive relationships with family and friends
  • Acting as the link for a nominated service user(s)
  • Taking an active role in the development and maintenance of assessments for service users e.g. support plans, risk assessments, health action plans, and hospital assessments
  • Encouraging, supporting and providing personal care as indicated in the service users support plan
  • Supporting daily living duties necessary to the service user to create a homely environment including cooking and cleaning
  • Seeking advice and guidance from the group leader and escalating issues in order to gain authorisation or advice

Requirements:

  • At least 12 months previous care experience is preferred, but training will be provided
  • Flexibility to working shifts and rotas
  • Good level of English

  • Starting Salary: £10.50 – £11.25 per hour (depending on experience)
