Visa Application

Applying for a visa

If the applicant has trained outside of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA), and has been offered a nursing job in the UK, they can apply for a tier 2 (general) visa.

Eligibility criteria

They will need to supply the following evidence as part of your application:

  • A valid certificate of sponsorship for their new role which shows how much you will be paid
  • Proof of their English language skills
  • Their travel history during the last five years
  • Proof of their personal savings (They will need at least £945 in your bank account for 90 days before they apply, plus £630 for each family member)
  • Their tuberculosis test results if they are from a listed country
  • A criminal record certificate from any country they have lived in for more than a year over the last ten year period.

The NHS Trust will provide sponsorship for them to live in the UK. They will give a certificate of sponsorship reference number which they can add to their visa application.

How long does the process take?

They are able to apply for a visa up to three months before the date they start their new nursing role in the UK. It can take the authorities around three weeks to reach a decision on their visa application.

How much does the visa cost?

The cost will depend on their particular situation. For example, it will take account of the country of origin, the length of time they plan to stay in the UK and how they are applying.
