The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) regulates nurses and midwives in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. NMC has set standards for nurses and midwives to meet in their working lives.
Nurses and midwives must follow the NMC code of conduct, which states how they must work and behave. To protect the public, NMC has set standards for education, to make sure nurses and midwives have the right skills and qualities when they start work. A Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer. This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa.
In order to apply for your UK work visa, you need a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS). The employer acts as your sponsor and will apply for this on your behalf. Any nurses who arrive in the UK for a nursing role will need to sit the NMC Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). It’s a competency test that is part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) registration process for nurses and midwives trained outside the EU/EEA. Read more
